« HANS HARTUNG - LA FABRIQUE DU GESTE » MUSÉE D’ART MODERNE DE PARIS, FROM 11.10.2019 TO 01.05.2020

The fact is quite clear.Hans Hartung has never had a real retrospective in France.The last event of this type on a national and international scale took place in 1969, when the artist had not yet even settled in his Antibes villa and 20 years of aesthetic experimentation were still to come.

It took much time and energy to fill this gap and respond to a historical need.The Fondation is now delighted to see the prestigious Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris dedicating itself to an extraordinary exhibition, of a scope and abundance almost never accorded to an abstract artist.

Spread over some 1,400 square meters, in a museum completely renovated after a year of work: Hartung, La Fabrique du geste.

To bring us to an understanding of the artist’s career, in all its variety and its unity, the exhibition includes not only hundreds of paintings and drawings, from the precocious experiments of 1922 to his final effusions in the 1980s, but also an archival trove including photographs and scenographic references for his architecture.
