The Foundation was established in response to a wish expressed by Hans Hartung and Anna-Eva in the sixties. It was created on 16th February 1994, receiving official approval by decree. It is led by a team of 14 people, under the aegis of a Board of Directors.

The Foundation is a private organisation and financially independent. It carries out its mission with income from financial capital that can be increased with the sales of assets belonging to it and resources relating to its activities.
